iPhone's Siri AI upgrade has reportedly been delayed, here is why

The iOS 18.4 is believed to bring the big Siri upgrade, however, reports suggest that Apple has hit some engineering issues and the rollout of the upgrade may have been delayed.

In Short

  • iOS 18.4 is expected to bring with it the Siri 2.0
  • It is believed to be the biggest iOS 18 update and has reportedly been delayed to May 2025
  • Reports suggest Apple has hit some engineering issue causing the update to be delayed

The iPhone’s next iOS upgrade is expected to be a big one –– apparently the biggest iOS 18 upgrade so far –– because it is supposed to bring what is believed to be Siri 2.0. With iOS 18.4, Apple is said to add AI upgrades to Siri, which will apparently be a big revamp for Siri. The update is also supposed to be the biggest iOS 18 update so far. While the first beta of the update is supposed to start rolling out some time this week for iPhone users, according to Mark Gurman, the stable version’s rollout may have been delayed until May 2025. Earlier, iOS 18.4 was expected to be released some time in April this year. Reportedly, Apple has hit an engineering issue which may have led to the delay.

Gurman says that iOS 18.4 is facing some engineering and software problems because of which Siri isn’t working the way Apple wants it to. And that is the reason, he says, “Some features, originally planned for April, may have to be postponed until May or later”.

Now, it is unclear if iOS 18.4 will still release in April without Siri 2.0, or if the entire update’s release will be pushed back to May “or later” to include the updated voice assistant. This also means that there could possibly be some delay in the iOS 18.5 roll out, which is believed to bring some iPhone AI features that Apple teased last year but never released.

Based on the demonstrations by Apple at WWDC 2024, the revamped Siri will come with features like personal context, cross-app actions, and on-screen awareness. These features are all believed to come with iOS 18.4.

In the next few months, Apple is scheduled to make a hoard of big announcements. Starting tomorrow, February 19, Apple is hosting an event to launch the iPhone SE

4. Then, this week, Apple is also believed to make a big announcement regarding the Vision Pro headset. In March, Apple is speculated to release the MacBook Air with an M4 chip. By April, if Apple does end up fixing the engineering issues with iOS 18.4, then we expect to see the rollout of the update that month. Otherwise, as reports suggest, it could be delayed to May. June is usually the month Apple hosts the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). And just months after that we will be in fall 2025, and it will be time for the iPhone 17 series, and hopefully also the iPhone 17 Air.
